Description/Story: This is the first of several paintings of this spectacular motels sign that is a similar design to the vintage Holiday-Inn signage. Located in Deland, Florida, it takes a beating from the Florida sun, but still stands out from the road and competes with a vivid blue sky.
As I paint many urban landscapes with deep color, it takes many layers in transparent watercolor to achieve it. This blue sky is a mixture of a few different blues such as Ultramarine and Cobalt. It took 10 layers before it was saturated enough to crown the sign with royalty!
